The SMOKE-FREE Vocational Institutions campaign empowers students and faculty of Vocational Institutions to address and reduce the harms of secondhand smoke and provides cessation resources for those who want to quit. Smoke-Free vocational Institutions are great for business and great for clients. Most institutions of higher learning have policies restricting tobacco products on campus. Locally, American River College, Cosumnes River College, Sacramento City College as well as Folsom Lake College all have non-smoking “30-feet from entryway” policies. Vocational Institutions can be included. They can choose to restrict the use of tobacco products on campus as well. In fact, a smoke free workplace reduces the immediate effects of secondhand smoke on non smokers¹ such as decreasing secondhand smoke asthma triggers, upper respiratory infections and lessening bronchitis. Over all policies help to create a healthier environment for everyone, making it more inviting for staff and clients. Through guidance from STAND, Sacramento Taking Action against Nicotine Addiction, local trade, technical and vocational schools are encouraged to adopt smoke-free campus or site policies that enhance places where people can Learn, Work, & Breathe SMOKE-FREE. |
